Experienced Bloggers and Writers needed for new political news site in the African-American vertical.
The ability to break news, perform investigative journalism, and post it with some brief analysis and insight is necessary. Ideal candidates will be self starters who have professional writing or reporting experience and solid news judgment.
Writing quickly, cleanly, intelligently, and accurately are crucial skills for the job.
Posts typically average 350-500 words. Bloggers must have basic knowledge of SEO best practices, with the ability to effectively link and promote through social media. Ideally, we’d like writers to work in 4-hour shifts, but we can also be flexible. This position is paid on a per-post basis, with funds disbursed monthly. Writers will be expected to have frequent contact with the company’s Managing Editor.
Requirements
- Applicants must be well-versed in the subject matter area or have previous writing experience in the area.
- Experience spotting news stories that are hot on the web.
- Comfortable navigating RSS feeds and scores of news Web sites.
- Ability to monitor news and write in near real time.
- Ability to post a minimum of 10 times per week.
- Fluent at adding context and perspective to news stories.
- Must be engaging writer with sharp wit and strong voice.
- Must be able to write strong, authoritative headlines.
- Basic knowledge of SEO best practices required.
- The ability to promote through social media.
- Must be able to use Wordpress.
